The mobile Cold Finger mCF2 tests wax and paraffin deposits as well as the effectiveness of inhibitors in crude oils. It has 2 measuring stations and requires only a small footprint. This makes it ideal for low sample throughput in the laboratory or for mobile, laboratory-independent use on site.
For more than 10 years we have been the trendsetter on the market with our Cold Finger technology. With it we have optimized the examination of wax deposits of crude oils so that among other things several measuring intervals per sample are possible and highly precise results are achieved thanks to weight-adjusted sleeves.
The new standard for professionals in the laboratory is now, also mobile! Our engineers have made it possible to scale the ingenious technology of our Cold Finger to a compact transportable size – while maintaining the same comfort and measurement quality.
10 years ago, PSL rethought the classic cold finger measuring method with the multi-rack Cold Finger CF15, creating a new standard. Now there is a little brother that transfers the high quality of PSL Cold Finger technology into a compact and portable device.
The mobile Cold Finger mCF2 offers the same convenience and precision as its big brother at two measuring stations. The device makes it possible to monitor various parameters such as wax formation temperature (WAT), total wax content or shear effect. While the temperature difference is simulated, the wax contained in the oil can be deposited on the cold surface of the cold finger.
The deposition rate is calculated by weighing the deposits at several intervals and at different temperatures. The final amount of deposit is the total wax content. Measurements can be interrupted individually at any time and continued with the same sample.
Remove the mobile Cold Finger from the transport case. Connect it to the power supply and a thermostat. Switch on the device and you are ready to go. Fill the samples into the measuring beakers and place them in the Cold Finger. Preheat the samples with the Cold Finger. Then push the cold fingers down and start the experiment. At the end of the experiment, slide the fingers upwards, wait briefly for the wax to solidify, remove the sleeve from the Cold Finger and weigh the sample. Done!
Or do you want to measure the wax deposition over time? Then slide the sleeve back onto the cold finger and start the next time interval. The samples are protected from environmental influences in the closed measuring chamber. The precise finger and sample positioning as well as the closed measuring chamber ensure a high level of operating safety and identical measuring conditions. For you, this means reproducible results with high measuring accuracy.
During the product demonstration, you will gain many insights into how it works. You can follow the measuring process live and then discuss your questions with our experts.
Are you still wondering whether the mobile Cold Finger mCF2 is best suited to your needs? Then the answers to the questions will help you get there.

The fully automated Wax Flow Loop is a compact laboratory system for investigating the precipitation and deposition of waxes, paraffins and asphaltenes in pipelines.
The portable pour point tester measures the pour point (no flow point) of oils and oil products in accordance with ASTM D 5985, making it 30 times more accurate than devices that comply with ATSM D97.
The automatic flocculation tester measures precipitation and crystallization of asphaltenes in very dark, undiluted crude oils and oil products up to 700 bar and 200 °C.
