Mobile Differential Dynamic Scale Loop mDSL
The mobile Differential Scale Loop mDSL is a tube blocking system for analysing crystalline deposits from aqueous solutions, e.g. with salt, carbonate, sulphate, iron, sugar and geothermal water. You are not tied to the laboratory, but can simply take the mobile DSL to the customer or directly into the field. Thanks to the secure transport case, the mDSL is always well protected when travelling!

The mobile Differential Scale Loop simulates the conditions in pipework and production systems at temperatures up to 150 °C (302 °F) and pressures up to 172 bar (2,500 psi). The mobile DSL can also be used to test scale inhibitors, antiscalants, scale inhibitors or scale removers.

Mode of operation

The mobile Differential Scale Loop is a two-pump system. The standard test procedure utilises artificial, separate salt solutions with a fixed inhibitor concentration and a manual switch for salt solution or cleaning option.

The mobile Differential Scale Loop was specially developed to observe deposition processes under real conditions and to develop countermeasures. This is done in three steps:

  1. Determining how high the risk of deposits is
  2. Selection or development of an inhibitor (inhibitor substance)
  3. Testing the efficiency of the inhibitor and determining the required minimum concentration

Test capillary rethought

New tempering system makes it possible

The test capillary has been newly developed for the mobile use of the DSL. Instead of the familiar metal capillary used in the DSL oven, a cartridge with a spiral channel is used in the mobile DSL. This cartridge makes it possible to see the deposits directly and can be easily removed. This also allows the distribution of the deposits to be assessed before a simple cleaning completes the measurement.

The electric heating system is compact and quickly regulates the device to the desired temperature. It also offers active cooling, so the mobile DSL is quickly ready for use again.

Extension to inline DSL

Live testing of samples under real field conditions

For our instrument two extensions are available. Both allow the direct injection of real live water samples. For carbonate scale forming waters with dissolved gas or particles the sample can be injected pressurized and is drained in a second pressurized waste container.

The sample will not depressurize in the whole process. For sulfate scale forming waters the injection line is additionally heated and the test capillary can be cooled for testing the temperature dependence of the scaling process.

Efficient test control with WinDSLm software

Test conditions in terms of flow rates, temperature and pressure rates in the field test are comparable to the results from the laboratory.

With our WinDSLm software you can control all parameters for your experiment and record all relevant data. The software automatically stops the scale test as soon as a scale formation is detected. This prevents clogging of the capillaries and thus guarantees a long service life of the components.
