The Differential Scale Loop DSL is an automated laboratory device that investigates the behaviour of aqueous solutions with regard to the formation of crystalline deposits such as salts and, in particular, lime. To do this, the DSL simulates conditions in the field and in pipework systems such as oil pipelines, water pipes, heat exchangers in industrial plants or geothermal plants at pressures of up to 400 bar and temperatures of up to 300 °C. The differential scale loop is used to test scale inhibitors, scale inhibitors or scale removers, among other things.
The DSL from PSL is the best-selling scale loop in the world. It has been setting new technical standards in scale testing for 20 years. It is used successfully on all five continents.
The Differential Dynamic Scale Loop simulates the conditions in pipework and production systems at temperatures up to 300 °C (572 °F) and pressures up to 400 bar (5,800 psi). It can be used for all solutions with crystalline deposits, e.g. carbonate, sulphate, iron and other deposits, sugar, salt from seawater and geothermal water.
Until the market launch of the differential scale loop from PSL Systemtechnik, there were only unsatisfactory scale loops with two HPLC pumps on the market for the customer. Our DSL was the first commercial device with three HPLC pumps. This enabled faster, more accurate and, above all, automated measurements. This novel approach had quickly established itself as the industry standard and almost replaced two-pump systems.
We were able to maintain our pioneering position through continuous further development of the Differential Scale Loop. The software in particular is characterised by an unrivalled range of functions and a high degree of measurement automation, which leads to significantly shorter project lead times.
Our well thought-out concept for the differential scale loop leads to a long service life and protects your investment. Only high-quality and robust components from leading manufacturers, primarily from Germany, are used. All components exposed to heat are made of Monel to ensure greater resistance to corrosion from the hot salt solutions. All safety-relevant and expensive components are protected twice, via software limits and additionally mechanically.
The structure of the differential scale loop is modular. The basic device can be easily extended and later retrofitted by the user if required.
The expansion options include:
The test capillary is made of stainless steel as standard and therefore simulates most applications. Different lengths and internal diameters as well as different materials such as copper, aluminium or Hastelloy are available to simulate other process conditions. The capillary can be exchanged quickly and easily.
In order to simulate a wide range of process conditions, measurements can be carried out at temperatures of up to 300 °C and, depending on the model, pressures of up to 400 bar can be built up. The flow rate can also be varied over a wide range.
During the product demonstration, you will gain many insights into how it works. You can follow the measuring process live and then discuss your questions with our experts.
