The Dynamic Stability Loop DySL is a state-of-the-art laboratory device that tests the product stability of chemicals exposed to extreme pressure and temperature conditions. It has been specifically designed for stress testing chemicals in oil fields as well as chemicals in supply lines.
With the ability to simulate pressures of up to 150 bar or up to 600 bar and temperatures between -10 °C and +150 °C, the Dynamic Stability Loop reproduces the demanding conditions under which oilfield chemicals must prove their long-term stability. This device is suitable for all liquid chemicals that have to withstand such challenging conditions.
The DySL enables automated long-term testing and parallel analysis in up to four loops. It is characterized as a 3-in-1 solution, as the product stability of the chemicals is assessed on the basis of three decisive parameters: Viscosity change, filter blocking and deposits. In this way, the Dynamic Stability Loop ensures a comprehensive assessment of chemical stability in critical applications.
The Dynamic Stability Loop is used in the laboratory to test the product stability of chemicals for their specific area of application through artificial ageing in a stress test. For this purpose, the flow rate, pressure and temperature are kept constant in order to simulate extreme conditions, e.g. in supply lines.
The stress test is carried out as follows: The sample is pumped continuously in a circulation system (loop) at high pressures over a longer period of time, usually 1 to 2 weeks. The sample is subjected to targeted thermal stress by first passing it through a heating bath and then through a cooling bath.
The viscosity changes and deposits are precisely recorded in each measuring section. In addition, an integrated filter enables the detection of particles in the sample. These comprehensive stress tests allow the long-term stability of the chemical to be evaluated in detail.
The viscosity and filter block tendency are continuously measured in both the heating bath and the cooling bath by monitoring the differential pressure. Long-term changes can also be observed. User-defined settings of absolute pressure, back pressure and bath temperatures allow a wide range of conditions to be simulated, from relatively mild onshore conditions to drastic deep sea requirements.
In view of increasing demands on test conditions, the Dynamic Stability Loop was specially designed for carrying out multi-loop experiments. Up to four parallel loops enable the simultaneous testing of different chemicals or different product types. Each individual loop can be used independently. Cleaning and filling is possible while other loops are in operation. The measuring capillaries and filters can be replaced by the user. Long-term tests of up to 30 days or longer can be carried out.
Only a small sample volume of less than 50 ml is required to fill the test loop. The sample can then be pumped either in a closed loop or with an open outlet. When the loop is open, the liquid is pumped back into the reservoir, so that the entire volume of liquid in the reservoir is circulated. This leads to a significant increase in the possible sample volume, up to 500 ml can be used. In the closed loop, only the current filling quantity is required.
The WinDySL software enables simple control of the Dynamic Stability Loop and records all measured values. Various recording options can be selected to analyze different aspects of the experiments. A tool is also integrated into the software with which the pressure sensors can be quickly calibrated to compensate for long-term shifts in the measured values.
